Your rights don't come from us. They exist under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the NDIS Act 2013 and the NDIS Code of Conduct. Our job is to uphold them, every visit, every shift, every conversation.
With us, you always have the right to
- Dignity and respect. You are the expert in your own life, and we treat you that way.
- Choice and control. You choose your supports, who delivers them, and how and when they happen.
- Safe, quality supports free from violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation and discrimination. See our safeguarding commitment.
- Privacy. Your information is collected carefully, stored securely and never sold. See our privacy policy.
- Communication that works for you. An interpreter, Auslan, Easy Read, a communication device: tell us what you need and we'll work with it.
- Support from people you trust. Family, friends, an advocate or a support coordinator can be involved as much or as little as you choose.
- Take reasonable risks. Making your own decisions, including ones we might not make ourselves, is part of a full life. This is dignity of risk, and we respect it.
- Say no. You can decline a support, change your mind, or change providers at any time.
- Speak up. Raising a concern or making a complaint will never affect the quality of your supports. See our complaints procedure.
The NDIS Code of Conduct
Every NDIS provider and worker in Australia is bound by the NDIS Code of Conduct. It requires us to respect your rights and your privacy, deliver supports safely and competently, act with integrity, honesty and transparency, raise concerns about quality and safety promptly, and take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to violence, exploitation, neglect, abuse and sexual misconduct.
Advocacy
You have the right to an independent advocate at any time: someone whose only job is to be on your side. Advocates are always welcome in our conversations. If you'd like one and don't know where to start, ask us and we'll help you connect with an independent advocacy organisation. No strings attached.
