Our commitment
Whenever we support children and young people, their safety and wellbeing come before everything else, including our own interests and reputation. We want children to be safe with us, and to feel safe with us. Those are different things, and we work at both.
What we commit to
- Safety in every decision. Child safety is owned by our leadership and embedded in how we recruit, train, roster and review.
- Children are listened to. We take what children and young people tell us seriously, and we make it easy for them to speak up in whatever way works for them.
- Families and carers stay involved. Parents and carers are partners in support, informed and heard.
- Equity for every child. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children with complex communication needs, and LGBTIQA+ young people get the extra care and cultural safety they deserve. Affirmed, not just accepted.
Worker checks and training
Everyone who supports a person under 18 with us holds a current NSW Working With Children Check as well as their NDIS Worker Screening Check clearance. Our workers are trained to recognise signs that a child isn't safe and to act on concerns straight away, and they're supervised, not left to figure it out alone.
The NSW Child Safe Standards
We align our practice with the ten Child Safe Standards overseen by the NSW Office of the Children's Guardian: the framework built from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. Read about the Child Safe Scheme at ocg.nsw.gov.au. As an NDIS provider we're also bound by the NDIS Code of Conduct.
