Affirming care
You shouldn't have to shrink to be supported.
Affirming care isn't a special program you have to ask for. It's simply how we work, with every participant, every day.
Gender-affirming support
We use your name and pronouns from the very first conversation, and we keep using them, without fuss, whoever's on shift. Your gender is not something to be managed around; it's part of who you are.
We back you in the everyday moments where being seen matters most: at appointments, in the community, and at home. If you're navigating gender-affirming healthcare, we'll support you to get where you need to be, practically and respectfully.
- Right name, right pronouns. Every worker, every time. No explaining yourself twice.
- Support to appointments. Getting to and from gender-affirming healthcare, with someone in your corner.
- A safe everyday. Being fully yourself at home and out in the community, without commentary.
- Sensory needs respected. Lighting, noise, textures and busy spaces, we plan around what your body needs.
- Stimming is welcome. Move, fidget, rock, flap. You never have to mask to be supported by us.
- Communication your way. Speech, AAC, text, visuals or extra processing time, all equally valid.
Neuro-affirming support
We don't see neurodivergent traits as problems to correct. We talk about them as glimmers, the things that light you up, the ways your mind works best.
Support is built around how your brain actually works: your rhythms, your interests, your sensory world. We adapt to you, never the other way around.
Follow the glimmers
“A glimmer is the opposite of a trigger, the spark of interest, joy or focus that makes someone come alive. We build support around those.”
FAQs
Questions about affirming care.
Straight answers, no jargon. Anything else, just ask.
Is affirming care an extra service or add-on?
No. Affirming care isn't a special program you have to ask for, it's simply how we work with every participant, every day.
How does Rainbow Connections support gender-affirming care?
We use your name and pronouns from the first conversation and every worker keeps using them, no exceptions. We also support you to and from gender-affirming healthcare appointments.
What does neuro-affirming support look like?
We build support around how your brain actually works, not around deficits. Stimming is welcome, sensory needs are planned for, and you can communicate however works for you, speech, AAC, text or visuals.
Is Rainbow Connections LGBTIQA+ inclusive for all participants, not just staff?
Yes. LGBTIQA+ inclusion shapes who we hire, how we train, and how every participant is supported, whoever's on shift.
